Among the best flavoured blueberries
Possibly the the best varieties for flavour, also producing large berries. The flavour is intensely rich and sweet with an unmistakable blueberry tang. Can be grown throughout the U.K. The bush is only moderately vigorous and therefore ideal for container growing.
The Ozark blue is a late season (July-August), highbush cultivar with plump, light blue berries. It is the perfect cultivar if you want to extend your blueberry harvest into autumn. The fruits are produced in abundance on an upright bush, and are preceded by white flowers often with a very delicate pink tinge. This plant is very hardy, and will survive the cold, but does really well when there is plenty of heat.
The rise in the reputation of the blueberry as a superfood has also led to a great increase in popularity. The fruits are packed full of vitamin c and antioxidants and are much more palatable than some of the other superfood alternatives. Blueberries go great with cereal or as part of a smoothie and can make a great tasting jam too.
