Also known as Plume Thistle for its effusive flower heads, this hardy plant is a striking addition to any planting scheme. Cirsium is derived from the Greek word ‘kiros’ meaning ‘swollen vein’ as thistles were used as a remedy for swollen veins. This rhizomatous perennial is a friend of the wildlife – pollinators will love its nectar-rich flowers. Having a clump forming habit, the Blue Wonder variety makes for an excellent pairing with Papaver or Salvia.
